Back to basics! Our client wanted a patio awning to blend with his stunning Spanish-design home in Phuket’s Boat Lagoon Marina. We thought about all the yacht covers we have done in our early days at Shades, and came up with what we think is a most suitable adaption of that “marine look” for this marina house.
We chose Sunbrella woven acrylic as a long-lasting tensionable fabric in a colour to provide some light translucency and to blend with the all-white house. White marine epoxy painted rafters and beams helped with the theme. White is white, but for that real marina touch, we added a contrast (our specialty): a stained redwood timber column with white base and top caps, and 316 garde stainless steel fittings.

This fabric sala was purpose-designed by SHADES to provide all-day shade for a dining setting by the pool. Oh yes, and all-day shade for the doggie.
Columns and frame components are mild steel finished with our standard 5-coat marine epoxy paint system – the best possible. Fabric is architectural fabric from Europe featuring a special top coating to assist with self-cleaning of the fabric (in rain) and ease of cleaning by hand. Cleaning is simple – just wipe over with a cloth and water to remove any settled dust.
The structure was designed and built to be pre-wired for lighting and fans, all prior to painting to avoid messy drilling and subsequent rust after installation.
Almost all Shades product is pre-assembed at our Phuket factory and brought to site in finished condition, wrapped, painted, ready to install without the need for on-site cutting, grinding, welding, or painting. Breathe easy – we’re house trained! Your sandwash, garden and pool are in safe hands.
